On this tour you will discover some of the magnificent chateaux of the Loire Valley and the gastronomy of the region before we continue on to the Valley of the Dordogne to experience its beautiful  villages preserved from the middle ages, its medieval chateaux, its tradition and taste some of the finest cuisine of the south-west. We will make a stop at Saint Emilion, listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site.

General Information

 

The tour includes a French/English speaking guide– Minibus driver– all entrance fees to places listed in the itinerary. The tour is fully inclusive.

Accomodation (days 1 to 5) is at 3-4 star hotels, one in Paris and four in the Loire then (days 6 to 14) at Le Domaine du Cheyssignaguet in typical Dordogne house that is only for the groups use

Breakfast - Dinner table d'hôte or restaurant / Restaurant lunches or gourmet Picnics - If a full meal has been provided at lunch or dinner, the second meal will usually be a lighter meal (salads etc)

Day 1 Paris

The tour starts at our Hotel in Paris.

This evening we will have dinner together at a local restaurant.

Day 2 Chambord - Cheverny

This morning we leave the hotel and transfer to the LoireValley in our minibus.

Today we visit two of the most magnificent chateaux of the Loire Chambord and Cheverny

Then to our hotel in Tour and dinner at a local restaurant

 Day 3 Chaumont sur Loire - Chenonceau

After the breakfast we visit two very different chateaux, Chaumont sur Loire, with its lovely garden, and after the lunch the beautiful Chenonceau (the chateau of the dames) on the Cher river, former home of Diane de Poitiers and later Catherine de Medicis

 Day 4 Azay le Rideau - Villandry

After the beakfast  we will visit 2 other chateaux - Azay-le-Rideau is one of the most famous châteaux of the Loire and Villandry is especially well-known for its gardens that spread across three terraces and combine aesthetics, diversity, and harmony.

 Day 5 Amboise - Le Clos Lucé

To complete our visit of discovery in the Loire we will visit AMBOISE and Chateau de CLOS LUCÉ.

This chateau had many famous residents including Leonardo de Vinci who lived here until his death in 1519

 Day 6 Saint Emilion - Le Domaine du Cheyssignaguet in Dordogne

Today we check out of our hotel and leave the Loire for the Dordogne and our first stop is St Emilion, a world heritage site listed village famous for its red wines and chateaux. Here you will see St. Emilion's architectural, religious, and military heritage.

Free time in the village and for the lunch

We will visit the winecellars of “Les Cordeliers”. There will be free time to explore the village, before we leave for our accomodation at Domaine du Cheyssignaguet just to the north of Sarlat.

This evening we enjoy dinner at the house.

Day 7 Chateau des Milandes - La Roque Gageac

This morning a visit to Chateau des Milandes the last home of Josephine Baker, the famous theatre entertainer of the 1920’s in Paris.

Today we will have a picnic lunch by the Dordogne river and then we will go to the famous boat Gabare one the Dordogne visit the nearby village La Roque Gageac.

 Day 8 Saint Geniès - Wine appreciation - Lascaux Caves

After breakfast we will visit a traditional market at nearby St. Genies and then  enjoy a wine appreciation & tasting with a brunch.

Later a visit to the world famous Lascaux Caves and St. Amand de Coly.

 Day 9 Collonge La Rouge - Padirac

This morning we will visit one of the "plus beaux villages de France" (most beautiful villages of France) Collonge La Rouge, famous for its red stone buildings.

We will have lunch at a local restaurant and later visit Gouffre de Padirac the first underground world site in France before returning for dinner at Domaine du Cheyssignaguet

Day 10 La Bastide de Monpazier

An authentic "Most beautiful villages in France" bastide has preserved almost intact its appearance and its original dimensions. A jewel of medieval architecture. 

Free time in the village and for the lunch

We will return to Domaine du Cheyssignaguet to have an afternoon to relax in the pool or short walk around our estate.

Day 11 Sarlat

Wednesday is market and so we visit this famous medieval town for the sights and sounds of the market and free time for shopping.

We will return to Domaine du Cheyssignaguet for lunch and have an afternoon to relax in the pool or short walk around our estate.

This evening we will return to Sarlat for dinner at a local restaurant followed by a walking tour through the medieval town

Day 12 Rocamadour

Today we drive to Rocamadour, a famous pilgrimage site and its spectacular setting.

For nearly at thousand years, the narrow, lonely canyon of the Alzou has been home to a cluster of building clinging to the rock halfway up the sheer cliffs.

We will enjoy a picnic lunch there before returning to Domaine du Cheyssignaguet for a BBQ dinner

 Day 13 Beynac - Marqueyssac

For our last day in Dordogne we visit two major sites in the area Beynac and its impressive chateau and the chateau de Marqueyssac and take time to walk and explore the gardens which afford wonderful views of the Dordogne river


Tonight our last in the Dordogne we will visit a local restaurant for dinner.

Day 14 Au revoir

After breakfast we will leave for a drive back to Bordeaux and the train to Paris. Alternatively we can drop you back at the Bordeaux airport for an afternoon flight.
